The Morepork, or Ruru in Māori, is a distinctive and enigmatic owl native to New Zealand. Known for its hauntingly beautiful call that sounds like "more-pork," this medium-sized owl has a mottled brown and white plumage that provides excellent camouflage in its forest habitat. The Morepork is a nocturnal hunter, preying on insects, small mammals, and birds.

This owl is often found in native forests, where its silent flight and sharp eyesight make it an adept predator. In Māori culture, the Ruru is considered a symbol of protection and wisdom, revered for its presence and role in the ecosystem.
