Kawakawa, is a notable native plant of New Zealand, recognized for its heart-shaped leaves and distinctive, spicy aroma. This versatile shrub thrives in a variety of environments, from coastal regions to forest undergrowth.

The Kawakawa’s leaves are bright green with prominent, irregular veins, and they are often used in traditional Māori medicine for their therapeutic properties. The plant produces small, greenish flowers that develop into distinctive peppercorn-like berries.
