The Kakapo, or Strigops habroptilus, is a critically endangered parrot native to New Zealand and known for its distinctive, large size and nocturnal habits. This flightless bird, also called the owl parrot due to its owl-like face and nocturnal behavior, features moss-green plumage with a unique speckled pattern. Kakapos are herbivores, feeding on a variety of native plants, fruits, and seeds.
Renowned for its quiet, shy nature, the Kakapo is one of the world’s rarest and most unique birds. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect and restore its population, as it faces threats from habitat loss and introduced predators.
